Good Friday

Good Friday, the Friday within Holy Week, is traditionally a time of fasting and penance, commemorating the anniversary of Christ's crucifixion and death.

The Good Friday crucifixions in the Philippines have grown into a tourist attraction in recent years. The Catholic Church has distanced itself from the practice. The Filipino health authorities had stressed the importance of hygiene to the participants. They advised sterilizing the nails to prevent infection and recommended tetanus injections.
The voluntary crucifixions in the northern Philippines were the most extreme displays of religious devotion in this mainly Catholic country, where millions are praying and fasting ahead of the Easter weekend.
